Fabulous icon set for library projects
A couple of years ago I was asked to be involved in a project to redesign SAULCAT: the St Andrews University Library Catalogue, which uses the WebPAC Pro online catalogue service of Millennium from Innovative Interfaces. (Or something like that, I’m not a librarian!)
Part of the scope of the project was to enhance the material type icons used by SAULCAT to quickly indicate to users whether a found resource was a book, an electronic journal, a DVD, etc.
Having exhausted the default sets offered by Innovative I discovered this set from Carleton College in Minnesota, USA:
It’s called The Bridge Material Type Icon Set, is released under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 License which requires an attribution notice to be added to your website (ours is on the SAULCAT page on the website, rather than on SAULCAT itself) and they ask that any derivative works are resubmitted to the project so that they can potentially be made available to other users.
I heard from the project coordinator the other day who told me that they are currently working towards a release of version 2.0 of the icon set. Definitely something to keep an eye out for…but then, I am a sucker for good icons.
