Latest updates from the digital communications team for May 2022.

Course page redesign

Following A/B testing earlier in the year, the team have been working on modifying and improving the new course page design. We intend to roll out the new design pages in August for postgraduate taught pages and September for undergraduate pages.

T4 updates

Both T4 servers have recently been updated to version 8.3.12 and you will now need to be connected to the VPN to get access to T4 (old design).

One feature in the new version that is particularly welcome is the ability to approve content without going into it. A full list of changes can be found on the T4 release notes.

WordPress migration

We have completed the migration of WordPress sites from the School of Medicine to WP Engine and are currently migrating sites for the School of Medicine. It is anticipated the migration will be completed in May.

Accommodation QR codes

Halls of residence currently have paper copies of information in all rooms giving information, for example, electrical safety and how to get help. Managing and disseminating this information takes time and resources, particularly as the information for students is different from visitors during vacations.

We are working with Residential and Business Services to provide a more sustainable solution, where scanning a QR code in each room directs users to a web page that provides relevant information. This will be in place for the forthcoming summer season.

Digital newsletter signup

The digital newsletter is sent out at the start of each month. Subscribe to keep up to date on the activities of the digital communications team and to receive useful articles and resources relating to digital best practice.
