Digital Communications team update – July 2022
Latest updates from the Digital Communications team for July 2022.
Digital Communication interns
The Digital Communications team are pleased to be joined by two student interns over the summer. Olivia Gray (third-year Biology MBiol) and Laura Just Fung (third-year Astrophysics MPhys) started their six-week internship on 4 July.
Their main task will be helping to migrate the undergraduate course pages to the new design, but will also be involved in other activities, such as the editorial calendar, improving accessibility and existing web content.
Graduation
Graduation was a busy period for the Digital Communications team. During the three weeks, the team were responsible for live streaming the daily chapel thanksgiving service, monitoring the ceremony live streams and updating and uploading content to the graduation webpages and social media accounts.
Accessibility improvements
In the June newsletter, we announced that the University had been instructed by the Government’s Cabinet Office to audit the University website for accessibility issues.
Using our accessibility tool, Site Improve, we have been working to identify and fix these issues. This includes identifying images without a text alternative, improving colour contrast between text and the background and fixing code that was hindering screen readers.
There is still more to do, however, in the short space of time, we have increased our Site Improve accessibility score from 65/100 to 73/100. The industry benchmark for education is 82/100.
