Do people use related links?

Rethinking related links

Gov.uk have been looking at how often people use ‘related links’ areas on their website. It seems that they are not as popular as you might think.

But looking at the analytics, just 0.5% of users click on the related links. There is no evidence to prove that users are lost when they arrive at this page – users are not going to the search box to go elsewhere, nor are they clicking on the related links. They were not meeting a user need, so for the latest iteration we’ve removed them.

We might like to check the data for how often related links on our website are used. Having too many links on a page can overwhelm a user, so if they are not being used we may want to consider removing them.
