Digital Communications team update – March 2023
Latest updates from the Digital Communications team at University of St Andrews for March 2023.
Recruiting new team members
We are currently advertising for three vacancies to join Digital Communications.
We are growing the content editing team and are looking for a new Web Content Editor as well as a Digital Data Analyst and Content Editor. The closing date for these two posts is Friday 31 March.
To join our team of developers, we are advertising for a Front End Web Developer. The closing date for this post is Friday 14 April.
With the addition of these new posts, we can strengthen our resource, and extend the guidance and support we offer the University as a whole.
Google Analytics 4
From July 1, 2023, Google Analytics is changing from Universal Analytics over to Google Analytics 4 (GA4). In preparation for this, the Digital Communications team have spent time testing the new tool and the changes it will bring. We currently have GA4 installed alongside the previous Google Analytics product, so data for the University web content is being captured in both versions until the switch. If you have access to Google Analytics, you can continue with the existing interface until July. Look at GA4 and the changes to the interface on the Google support pages.
Online courses
We are supporting work to launch and promote the University’s new online postgraduate courses. Work is being done to provide information about course content and ensure the courses are as discoverable as possible.
Digital content strategy
Pickle Jar Communications will begin a series of workshops with Digital Communications, and other invited colleagues, to help inform the creation of a digital content strategy. We will be attending the first workshop at the end of April and look forward to beginning to plan and develop a strategy to enhance and improve the content that is written, accessed, and preserved across the University.

We have recently upgraded our search autocomplete functionality within the main site header. This update is designed to give users the best experience possible, reducing the amount of typing required and providing search results in fewer steps.
Improving low quality voice recordings with Adobe’s speech enhancement tool
Podcasting has exploded in popularity, and with that comes the need for high-quality audio recordings. However, not everyone has access to professional recording equipment or studios, and sometimes the audio quality can suffer. This is where Adobe Podcast Beta’s speech enhancement feature comes in.
